Practicalities
What you need to know to enjoy JavaZone X!
Location: The conference venue is Oslo Spektrum, here’s a map with a pin on the main entrance.
Before the conference
- Install the apps - Android: ”JavaZone X“, iPhone: “JavaZone“.
- Preregistration: If you are in the Oslo area on the afternoon of Monday or Tuesday, we urge you to preregister so that you can use the fast-lane on Wednesday morning, thus bypass the queue entirely: Go to Oslo Spektrum between 16:00 and 18:00, find the JavaZone helpdesk located right beside the ticketing office. Here you can pre-register yourself, and also any friends and colleagues if you bring their tickets.
Opening (Morning of Wednesday, 7th of September)
- You have to register to get in – you bring the ticket, you get a badge! You may preregister Monday and Tuesday (see above) – live in the fast-lane!
- The doors open at 07:30 – Coffee is served! Note that we have 2500 attendees to get through the doors, and while we have made every effort to make this very smooth, it will take some time.
- The opening show starts at around 08:15 where Hayseed Dixie will perform their fantastic Rockgrass, or as they call it: Killer (blue)Grass. They cover bands like AC/DC, Queen and Motörhead in grass – if we’re lucky, a heavy-banjoed Ace of Spades will kickstart your first full day of hardcore java! (For Norwegians in particular: Check out their latest album!)
- The first talk is at 09:00 – the full program is here.
The conference days (Wednesday and Thursday)
- Food is served – constantly! JavaZone X features a food court with different stalls serving a variety of food throughout the day.
- Breaks: 20 minute break between the talks.
- Last talk ends at 19:20 on Wednesday, and on 18:00 on Thursday.
- Overflow system: If a talk fills up, you may still attend. You register at the JavaZone booth to get a set of headphones, and then walk over to the large overflow venue where all conference rooms are projected on big screens, and using the headphone-selector you tune your audio to the room you want to listen in on. This is useful both when the talk actually is full, but also when you just can’t decide between a set of talks!
- The exhibition area features stands from most of our partners – do check them out!
- Several of the partner stands have some competition and/or lottery – several featuring very nice prizes!
- You’ll also find a stand for javaBin – meet the organizers of JavaZone! Many of the speakers will also swing by.
- There’s a good bookstore featuring relevant and interesting titles.
AweZone Festival
The IT-party of 2011 starts Wednesday night at 19:00, at Rockefeller! Here’s a map with a pin on the main entrance, and a pin on Oslo Spektrum. The doors close at 03:00.
In need for some pre-conference warm-up? Check out all the talks for the two previous years, JavaZone 2010 and JavaZone 2009!
… and lastly, always remember: Write once – run … for your life!
